We mosey along steady away for the majority of the year, its a bit like manana land and then suddenly bang - it's mobbed.
Well it has been incredibly busy and the final bank holiday in May seemed to be a record breaker in so many ways.
Firstly Mr and Mrs Gamble ( Pictured ) are themselves record breakers. Mr Gamble has now won the Kirkcudbright half marathon 3 years running. His secret he tells me " staying at the Selkirk Arms Hotel " after the full Scottish breakfast he packed away I'm surprised he could run at all !!! And as for Mrs G - I was pinning my hopes on it being a husband a wife double but alas it wasn't to be, but no disgrace to the 5th place Mrs Gamble achieved in the ladies listings. Well done to both and we look forward to seeing you both next year. Could Mr Gamble make it 4 in a row - rooms are selling fast for this box office extravaganza !!!
Our second record was that we sold more art over the weekend than any other weekend of the year. Perhaps it was enthusiastic collectors following the Spring Fling route that saw over 40 local artists throw open their studio doors for the weekend. I just wish it could last a week. So many of our guests want to stay and do the fling right across the region.
So here's a little taster if you've missed out on Spring fling and here are some of the local Galleries and Artists for your perusal.
HIGH STREET GALLERY - just along the road from us, they also hand a selection of art in our Bistro and Burns room.
Freida Dyson's work - we have a wonderful oil on canvas of Broughton House Gardens @£295 on display
Lisa Hooper - Lisa's work sells well here at the Hotel especially when it is covering Kirkcudbright
Richard Brinley - talented Gatehouse of Fleet artists is also a well respected and supported artist
If you visit our main web site you will find plenty of links to Kirkcudbright Artistes and Galleries.
And Finally - setting a new record for himself and due to be launched next week my business partner Douglas ( the one in the Kilt ) has written a Golfing blog about all the courses in Dumfries and Galloway from a golfers perspective. It will be live next week as the final tweaks are being made but it brings this techno dinosaur a little closer to the 21st century !!!
Hope the sun is shining where you are - the weather has been great - don't forget you can check out our web cam anytime - Click here
Take care - CHRIS - ( Chris Walker co owner )
